Lighting Mistakes to Learn From

Have you ever walked into a space that seemed perfect at first glance, only to notice something off? Maybe it’s a shadow in the wrong place, a light source that’s too bright, or a reflection that feels distracting.

As a lighting designer, I’ve made it a habit to notice these small details—details that most people miss but can completely transform a space.

That’s why I’m starting a new series: ‘Lighting Mistakes to Learn From.’ In this series, I’ll share real-world examples of mistakes I’ve encountered, explain why they happen, and provide practical solutions to fix them. My goal is to help architects, designers, and lighting enthusiasts learn how to enhance their designs by avoiding common pitfalls.

Stay tuned for my first post about marble columns, where I’ll show how improper strip light installation can ruin the look of a reflective surface—and how a few small adjustments can make all the difference.

Have you noticed lighting mistakes in places you visit? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your stories!
